Monitoring and Trouble Shooting Repository Server

QWFIX Repository Server writes the system log into the log files located in the "log directory". The log directory can be specified using the "Repository Server Manager" GUI tool.

Each time the Repository Server is started or restarted, a new log file will be created in the log directory.

View the Log File

The Repository Server log can be viewed using the "Local Log Viewer" GUI tool, which is included in the standard package of "QWFIX SDK & Tools".

In Windows Start menu, launch "All Programs" -> "QWFIX" -> "Local Log Viewer". The screen shot below shows the recommended window layout. If a panel is not displayed, clicking the corresponding item under "View" menu item will show the panel.

Log folders must be added to the log viewer. Press the "Add" button in the tool bar of the "Explorer" panel, as shown below.

A dialog wil pop up. Click "Browse" button to add the Repository Server log directory. For more information about Repository Server log directory, please read "Configuring Repository Server".

A user friendly "Display Name" should be assigned to this folder. In this case we call it "RepositoryServer".

Once the directory is added, all log files in the folder will be automatically listed.

Note the current version of log viewer won't detect the creation of new log files. User is required to press "Refresh" button to refresh the list.

Success Log

If the Repository Server started successfully, an entry of "QWRepositoryServer service started." will be written to the beginning of the log.

Failure Log

If the Repository Server failed to start, a fatal error entry will be written to the log, as shown below.

Sometimes it takes SQL server express longer than ever to start itself. And it is a Microsoft problem. Note RepositoryServer will retry 3 times during start-up process, with 10 seconds interval.

If the problem persists, it could be some other problems. The most common problem is the incorrect installation of the SQL Server Express (instance name or priviledge of service account). Please contact Teraspaces technical support with "Description" of the error message.
